Probably, every one of us has a “dream” place in mind, somewhere we’d rather be, or just a touch of the country if we live urban/suburban or vice-versa.
That’s why landscapes can draw you in. Whether by the masters, or by your youngster, or by anyone in between, a scene hanging on the wall can be a portal into imagination, escape.
For me, it’s generally a farm scene. If there have been past lives, I was there. The tranquility is compelling though the early rise, the hard work are muted. The country scenes of youth chime in as well with notes of nostalgia. Nice way to go to sleep.
Yet the referral place need not be a home or a farm. It can be woods, the water, the small public library, a grandmother’s porch, your friend’s car, a city street where you played street ball, the urban sidewalk for jumping rope.
You cannot go home again, but you can picture it.
